While there is such a thing as perfect technique, it?s slightly different for all of us. There, I said it. I know it contradicts what so many of those instructors, the ones teaching it by the book, tell us. I started as a novice inundated with that type of rigid thinking. We do it this way, a, b, and then c. It wasn?t until much later that I recognized that not all perfect golf swings are the same.
Each of us is different, and we must adapt perfect technique to our body. This isn?t easy to do as a novice, but it becomes easier as an intermediate player. It would be better if more instructors were willing to customize their students? golf swings based on their individual needs. I think that had I that experience, my game would have evolved much faster.

For many players, golf swing speed is seen as a vital part of the game. To some extent, this is true, however what’s more important is adding in timing and tempo with this speed.
If you look at someone like Ernie Els, you’ll see an excellent example of this in action. The “Big Easy” is relaxed and smooth through his back swing but is still able to drive the ball a mile.
He has great tempo and ensures at impact he is generating the maximum golf swing speed to make great contact with the ball. The key is that everything is in alignment and balanced, i.e weight transferral, head still, hands in the right place, so that when he does accelerate towards impact, everything is where it should be for a great shot.

When I first started playing golf, I had the same problem that a lot of golfers have — I sliced the ball. Whenever I would hit a shot, the ball would quickly make a hard right turn, often landing in trouble of out of bounds. After taking several lessons and reading many instructional articles, I learned a key to cure my slice.
To cure my slice, I fixed my grip. My grip used to be too weak, which caused the club face to be open at impact, creating slice spin on my golf ball. To rectify the problem, I strengthened my left hand grip (right hand for lefties) by turning the hand more to the right so that I could see two to three knuckles. Before I knew it, my slice was gone.

Other than using your own special scoring system and giving yourself nothing worse than a bogey (even though you may have shot an 8 on a par 4 hole), the quickest way to drop a few strokes from your golf score is to eliminate really bad shots. Sometimes, in an effort to pull off an impossible shot (at least for an amateur), we end up taking a double or triple bogey on the hole. You may wind up in the water or lose your ball deep in the woods. The penalty strokes add up quickly and your score suffers. By playing more cautiously and not taking so many risky shots, you will wind up with a lower overall score. Better to be short and straight than long and out of bounds.

As with any new endeavor, getting started on the right foot (no pun intended) can help you master the task at hand. Once you understand the fundamentals and learn the proper techniques, you will develop good practice habits. It does no good to hit a big bucket of balls if you are swinging the club all wrong. Golf is a matter of muscle memory and repetitive motion.
A good lesson for beginning golfers is to learn how to hit a pitching wedge. Many newbies try to get the ball airborn by trying to “lift” the ball up with the angular face of the pitching wedge. This is exactly opposite of the proper technique. To get a pitching wedge to launch the ball high into the air, simply hit down on the ball.

As golfers, especially those who have graduated to the intermediate level, we’re always looking for that edge. We look for it from our friends and coworkers, we look for it online, and we look for it in books. Another great resource is a video golf lesson. The video golf lesson unfairly earned a bad rap when it was limited to VHS tapes and then later DVD.
Today we have the modern Internet and all the free resources that come along with it, such as YouTube. YouTube is a great opportunity for golf pros to reach the masses and strut their stuff. The good ones put some extremely valuable material online. And the best part about it is that it’s available to you completely free. So the next time you’re looking for some new material, try a free video golf lesson online.

Let’s face it; golf is not an easy sport. While some people may find that it is not entirely difficult to pick up, actually learning the game is an entirely different animal. Not only is it difficult, it can be so frustrating that some people give up. Fortunately, golf instruction can help those who can’t quite get things right learn the basics in no time.
Golf instruction does not have to be expensive. Usually, courses offer instructors that can teach either group or private classes, and it often isn’t necessary to take more than just a few classes. The main goal of golf instruction is for one to learn the basics; advanced golf instruction is available, however. Either way, there’s no better way to learn the game than golf instruction.

The golf swing is one of the most scrutinized actions in all of sports, an elaborate combination of motions that even the world?s best players never master. How then are you, the twice-a-week player, supposed to fine-tune your swing to the point that it no longer requires work? Simple; you?re not. Since the golf swing is actually a series of motions, tips to enhance your swing must hone in on one particular aspect. Here, though, are some the most common golf swing blunders, worth considering as you examine your game. Is your grip too tight? Is your back swing too fast? Do you swing too much with your arms and not enough with your hips? And one quick word that might get you a little more distance off the tee: try pointing your front foot slightly away from the ball. I’ve seen it work.

Golf swing instruction is vitally important for every golfer who wants to play consistently and improve over time.
All of the guys playing the PGA tour get golf swing instruction and for the most part, they stick with the same coach for a decent amount of time. Having a personality match is vital for any long term arrangement, but the main thing to look for with golf swing instruction is an approach that fits in with your natural swing and playing goals.
If you choose a coach who decides you should change everything, then prepare for a long period of commitment to see results. If you are simply looking for extra help to improve what you already have, then a coach who won’t make wholesale changes is the right one for you.

Many experienced golfers I have spoken with have tried to un-learn of the bad habits acquired over the years. They need to be un-learned before attempting to correct and replace with basic golf swing mechanics.
It is important to get off on the right foot with beginners golf lessons when learning the game. Old habits are hard to break and the latest and greatest equipment won’t help until you understand the mechanics of how your body weight is transferred when you swing a golf club. Brute force will keep you in the rough, water or parking lot.
Correct your swing mechanics, stay focused and don’t try to hit the ball out of the park and you will slowly shave strokes off your handicap.
